OFFENCES COMMITTED BY BOYS. ~.."., ;' A sifting, of the/Juvenile Court*was held on Saturday morning,. over whicn Mr F. V. Frazer, S.M., presided. A l)cy nine years of age, who threw stones at a railway, carriage- atNgaio, was reprimanded and discharged. Two lads fourten and thriteeen yaars of age respectively-pleaded guilty to stealing the sum of 4s. It was shown that the elder hoy was of good character, and had gained a proficiency certificate at school. In regard to the younger lad, the Probation Officer (Mr Dineen) said it was. unfortunate, that the lad had a father who was not much good, jandhis, wife was obliged to go out to work..in order .to, keep the family, consequently the home control was not at all that could be desired: He recommended that the boy bo sent to the country. The older lad had his case adjourned for twelve months, under the -usual conditions, and the younger was nominally committed to the Nelson Home- For the time being the defendant is to be kept in tho Probation Home, Wellington, until a suitable positon is found for him in the country. .. '« A boy, thirteen years of age, admitted a chargo of breaking and entering, with theft. Tho defendant had stolen tho sum of 20s, and n number of trinkets, and the police informed the court that the boy was living tho lifo of a vagrant. Mr Dineen ■said the boy had not been given a 'chance. For the past six years he had attended school, and no complaints had been received in respect of. his behaviour. His foster mother had been good to him, and was desirous that he should be given an opportunity to make good. The accused was committed to the Nelson Training' Farm, and until consideration regarding admitting him to probation has been dealt with, the defendant -is. to be placed under.the control of the- Probation Officer.
