Mr John Dudor is now chief officer of the Kamona. The Kaiapoi is to leave Wellington tomorrow for Lyttelton to complete discharge. Ho will return by the same vessel this week. The Monowai, en route from Dunedin, left Lvttclton at 10 o'clock last night for Wellington, where she is due towards midday to-day. The vessel is to sail at 2 p.m. to-dav for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland but will not receive any cargo. The American ' schooner Bertie Minor, which has been having a new rudder fitted, will be brought off the slip at 9.30 o’clock this morning. A barque will be taken up on the cradle at 1 p m. to-day for cleaning. , Shortage of labour has detained the Ivokiri at Wellington, but she will depart to-dav for Auckland. ■ The Kakapo arrived at Westport at 9 a.m. yesterday and was to sail at 2 o’clock this morning with a full load of coal for Wellington. The John is to leave Wellington todav with explosives for Port Chalmers. The vessel will afterwards proceed to Dunedin. Oamaru and Wellington. The Ngahero left Grevmouth at midnight on Moridav for Wellington, wheiv she is due early this morning. A rough unpleasant passage from Sydney was experienced by the HuddartParker steamer Riverina, which arrived at Wellington at 3.45 p.m. yesterday. The vessel left Sydney at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, and shortly afterwards encountered a southerly gale with high beam seas. The weather was cold, with overcast sky. and occasional showers. These conditions prevailed until yesterday morning, when tho vessel entered Cook Strait. On arrival the Riverina berthed at the King’s wharf, where pratique was granted. The cargo to be discharged here totals 3400 tons. The vessel will not visit Lyttelton this trip, but is to sail from the wharf at U o’clock to-morrow night on the return trip to Sydney and Hobart. MOANA FOR 'FRISCO. The Union Co. advise that the departure of the Moana from Wellington for Rarotonga, Papeete and San Franpisco, has been further postponed from noon till 2 p-m. to-day. FARES BY RABAWA. Levin and Co. announce nn increase in the fares by the Barawa, running between Onehunga and New Plymouth. (The new faros are ns follow, with the old rates in parentheses: Saloon 31s (30s), return 62» (50s); steerage, 23* Cd (22s 6d), return. 37s (35»). AUBTEALIAN^OToirSCHOONER. The CetKana, tho first of the ntw motor-schooner* built for the Commonwealth Government, arrived at Sydney on August 20th from Seattle. Her advent aroused considerable interest along tho water-front. Tho Cothana brought a full cargo, consisting of 1400 tons of paper and 500 tons of steel plates. Sho also carried a quantity of lumber on dock. The voyage occupied 30 days from

Seattle, inclusive of a call at Honolulu. This is regarded as a very satisfactory performance. The Cethana came ii to port under her own motor power, but sho had to bo assisted by tugs to a discharging berth at Goodlet and Smith’s wharf. Trouble occurred with the motor on tho voyage across the Pacific, tho chief difficulty ‘being tho reversing gear. The Cethana is of peculiar design, having two abort masts, with bridge amidships, and ongino-room right aft. The vessel was built on tho Pacific Coast, and is equipped with all tho latest appliances. Under full power sho is equal to a speed of 10 knots per hour. Captain Binnic, formerly of tho Union 5,3. Co.’s service, is in command. CARGO FROM COLOMBO. Advico has been received from Colombo that, owing to the action of tho Australian Government, the shipping companies in Colombo' will not give through hills of lading to Now Zealand. In the meantime Now Zealand importers are faced with tho necessity of appointing shipping agents in Australia to look after their interest*, which, of eour**, mean* additional cost on the good* imported from Colombo via Au»tralia.
