RUGBY FOOTBALL
RULES TO BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO. A special mooting of the committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held last night to consider an application from the Wellington Union for permission to play a match between Auckland and Wellington under certain modified rules. After lengthy consideration tho following decision was arrived at:— "That tho Wellington Rugby FootbaU Union bo informed that' this committee, has no option but to adhere strictly to the constitution of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union as defined <by Bui© 2 thereof, and cannot therefore accede to tho request that the match Auckland v. Wellington be played under rules other than those fixed by tho English Eugby i?ootbnll Union/' It was further decided, in replying to tho Wellington Eugby Union, to point out that one of the suggested modifications was expressly rejected by the delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union at a special meeting held last year.
