SHEEPBREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING AT PALMERSTON. (From Our Special Reporter.) PALMERSTON, NORTH, June 19. A meeting of.the New Zealand Bheepbreeefers’ Association was held to-day. Mr H. B. Stuckey (Dnnnevirke) presided over a representative attendance. The report, which was adopted, stated that the war had had an effect on the fat lamb trade and the flocks had boon jeept at normal in consequence; only half a dozen new flocks having been registered during the year. Under the exceptional circumstances the position was considered satisfactory. Several Southdown flock owners had not scut in returns for the year, but had intimated that they intended to hold on to their flocks until things became normal again. In the meantime all ram lambs wore being turned into wether mutton. Great annoyance had been occasioned purchasers through, breeders failing to supply information regarding the transfer of rams, and the giving of the name of sires.

The balance-sheet showed that the association was in a good financial position the main portion of the reserve funds having been invested in the war loan. It was decided to raise the value of tile gold medal awarded to the champion Southdown ram exhibited at shows from .£2 2s to „C 5 ss. Championship gold medals were awarded to the following shows:—Mastenton (Southdown ram); Manjuvatn Feilding, Wanganui, Wairarapa, and £>anncvirko (tavo-tooth Southdown rams); Hawke’s Bay (Border Leicester rams); Auckland (Bnghsh Leicester^); Marten (Shropshiros). Messrs S. B. Bnrriball, H. J. Dngg, and J. Strang were re-elected members of the council; Mr S. It. Lancaster (Palmerston North), president; Mr H. B. Stuckey, vice-president; and Mr P. L. Sim, auditor. Seven new members were elected, including several of the Wanganui Collegiate School.
