GREY BY-ELECTION
MR COATES TO OPPOSE MR HOLLAND.
Press Association. GREYMOUTH, May 2
An informal meeting of representatives of the Labour, Reform, and Liberal parties took place at Reefton to-day, following up the initial work done in Greymouth to secure tho return of a member to represent all classes in the Grey electorate. Delegates from the Greymouth united committee attended.
The names of several possible candidates were submitted, and it was ultimately resolved that the candidate chosen by the central committee at Greymouth, Mr T. ifi. Coates, would be recommended to the united parties in Reefton. Mr Coates, who was present, yielded to the pressure brought to bear upon him, and definitely consented to allow himself to be nominated for the seat in tho interests of tho community as a whole. The Town Hall was packed to-night to hear Mr H. E. Holland’s opening address on behalf of Labour. The speech was mostly on the lines of Lis Wellington election platform. He had a most enthusiastic reception, and ft vote of confidence was passed.
