Speaking "to a representative of "tho •<j\ew Zealand Times," a baivation iriny omcer said: "We do not ask ttha people to make any sacrifices or gne any large contributions as an acknowledgment of what we have done, or in gratitude for our services. But we ask that they will give in gratitude for what our brave soldiers have done and are doing, and will still nave to do in this great war. We count it a, joy w> Berve such men, to cheer suoh brave hearts and to comfort and be of service to them jn any way. "There are no distinctions made ot class or creed. Our whole aspiration is to be of use to the Empire in this great struggle. La order to understand Uie willingness of the Red Jersey men to help at every opportunity, the following - incident will help: "In one of the severest engagements recently on -the Westsem front the Roman Catholic padre was knocked, out. The Salvation Army padre received from the hand of the wounded chaplain his valise, and the Salvationist himself took and administered • the holy 'sacrament to the dying Catholics on • the battlefield. - . , 'Some of the finest testimonies that have come to the Red Jersey men for work, done have come from Itonian Catholic soldiers. Ther have been unstinting in their praise. As an example may be quoted the words of a soldier returned from the war: 'I am true to mv own church, but I want to say •that for war work and in helping broken eold-iers 1 give tho Salvation Army iirst place every time.' "Another wrote: 'I have to express my appreciation of the splendid work being carried on. by the Salvation Army, the Y.M.C.A., the War Contingent Association, and others. But I'm quite ssure the people of the Dominion do not realise the greateness of the Salvation Army's war work;'"
