As an outcome of investigations made by the police in respect to the conduct of hotels at Petone (reported in the “Times”). Daniel PrendiviHe, barman at the Central Hotel, Petone, was charged before ->ir S. E. McCarthy, S.M., at the' monthly sitting of the court, hold yesterday, with a breach of the anti-shouting regulations. Inspector Marsack, who conducted the prosecution, said that Constables Cochrane and Phillips visited Petone on October 19th for tho purpose of making investigations. When in the bar of the Central Hotel the constables heard a man ask another to Lave a drink, tendered half a crown in payment, and received, one-and-six change. The man “shouted” for had previously offended „in a similar manner. The defendant, for whom Air J. Scott appeared, denied that “shouting” had taken place. He remembered the occasion, and had received warning that the constables were about. A half-crown had been tendered, and the change given was two shillings and threepence. Prendiville was convicted, and fined £lO, with costs. Tho licensee of the hotel, F. G. Warring, was fined £25, with costs.
