During a fierce engagement a British officer saw a Gorman officer impaled in the barbed wire, writhing in argu-sh. He said quietly. “I can’t bear 'o lock at. that noor chap any longer.” vlmjcr a terrific fire he went out, released the German officer, and carried him to a German trench. The fire ceased. Doth sides watched. Then tho German commander came out, took from Vs.own bosom the Iron Cross, and pinned it to the breast of the British officer.
