MILITARY CHAPLAINS
NEW SCHEME OF APPOINTAIBNT ? SIR JAMES ALLEN DENIES A STATEAIENT. The appointment of military .chaplains was referred to in tho (House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr AlcCallum (Wairau) asked tho Defence Alinister if tho report had reached him that the military affair s committee of tho Anglican Synod, in its loyalty, had placed u scheme before the Alinister whereby the appointing of chaplains would be controlled by Anglican Bishops. - 1 chaplain-general in tho person of a well-known Anglican Bishop was to ho appointed to control. Air AlcCallum said no preference should he shown to any denomination in this matter. There was no State Church. {Cries of 1 i No > 1 ). Sir James Allen said ho knew of no such scheme. The Anglican Church would be treated the same as any other Church. The policy of the Department in appointing chaplains in proportion to the strength of each denomination had been adhered to from the start. ~. , „ Air AlcCallum: “And there is no chaplain-general?” Sir James: “No.”
