Having learned 'through the HigU Commissioner 'for Now Zealand, London, that the British Ministry of Mu« nitions considered,)!,desirable to reduce the, varipty ,<jt_§mldloiy equipment usually ordered from the .United Kingdom by New Zealand importers* the Hon. Arthur Myers (Mimstor-ia-Oharge of the,Munitions and Supplies Department) invited the members or the New Zealand Wholesale Saddlers' 1 and Saddlers’ Ironmongery Association to confer with his . department on the subject., ..The conference resulted in the adoption, until the cessation of hostilities; of a policy of standardising equipment and other trade requisites; and a standardised list, comprising 106 items, was drawn np, full particulars of which can be obtained from the secretary to the association. Tho Minister' pointed out, however, that as time progresses, the difficulties in regard to obtaining some of the articles now on the approved list may increase, and it may be necessary for it to be still farther curtailed. This especially applies to ah kinds of furnishings made from copper, , brass, , and .steely. .Mr Myers stated to ’a “Times” ' representative yesterday that ho appreciated the patriotic action of the association fa readily meeting his request in this matter; and that he is of opinion that the result of the conference will bo satisfactory to those in authority at the Ministry of Munitions', London, who are dealing'with New Zealand orders. ■ ......
