GIRL PEACE SCOUTS
On Friday evening last at a well-attend-ed meeting of parents at Northland a troop of Girl Peace Scouts was organised. and several young ladies w ere enrolled. In the opening remarks of the chairman. Mr B. W. Eanrel, it was announced that the organisation was an entirely separate movement trom tne Dominion Hoy Scouts, and that the two organisations would not be allowed tp meet under any circumstances "whatever, either at work, concerts, or churca parades. These remarks were endorsed by the district commander, ilr A. Maodonald. The scoutmietress, iliss Edith Leadbetter, has taken charge of the troop, and will be assisted by a very capable committee, comprising eight ladies and three gentlemen, all bang parents of the scouts. It has been felt for some time that something should be done to help the young ladies to become proficient in such subjects as am. balance, home-nursing, care of infants, cooking, needlework, and many other subjects which, under capable lady instructors, will be given them. During the evening the young ladies who enrolled were addressed by _ the district commander, and after having the scout law explained to them they took tne scout oath, and so became Girl Peace Scouts in the new troop. As_ several more names have been handed in there is every possibility that the troop will be a large one, and judging by the enthusiasm displayed at the meeting of the scouts later in the evening it should be a very successful one. The troop intends to meet for instruction on Saturday afternoons only.
