AUCKLAND NOTES

From Our Special Correspondent. In view of the absence of the Auckland spring meeting, and the postponement of the Avondale spring fixture from September till November, Ellerslio trainers have eased their charges in work. On. Tuesday Oardrona was up against the watch, covering six furlongs in a way which was evidently satisfactory to the timekeepers. The son of Lupin finished the distance resolutely. The old 'chaser Golden Glow acted as schoolmaster for tho . Maniapoto gelding, Fisher. The pair flew four of the small battens, the latter fencing with confidence. Fisher is undoubtedly at the top of his best track form. Te Onga, which has a double engagement in the C-J.C. Nationals, is looking and going well. The horse has bnilt up since his victory at tho lA.R.C. winter fixture.

T. Cotton has Riggio looking in splendid health. The same applies to the rising two-year-old Delysian (Elysian—Delania), who is a bit on the small side. Cotton has sent Prince Rufus home to the owner. The leggy chestnut, although showing plenty of pace, does not seem to stay on. Master Regal, the hurdler, is out of commission at the present time, but will be ready at the A.R.O. summer meeting fixture. The rising three-year-old, Miss Leslie (Elysian—Puwerewere), ip tho same stable, is doing useful work. The Great Northern Steeplechase winner, Gluepot, is keeping in splendid health, and is ridden in his work by the trainer, W. Windsor. Tho clever horseman, A. J. McFlynn, has no further use for the crutches, and has resumed work. He was in the saddle three times on Wednesday, and steered Te Onga—a hard puller—on Tuesday, Waimai, who ran third in the V.R.C. Grand National SteeuWhase against two time-record smashers, should do well in his next essay over country. The horse only had a few days’ work after landing, and the extra condition should bo more than a set-off against the extra poundage when ho is next started.

The hunter Kamgareka has gone into W. A. Brown’s caro. having been purchased by a patron of the stable at a satisfactory figure.

MaoManemin’s team of actives are iu great heart at tho present time— Tabasco, Woody Glen, Minolus, Demotic, Colonel Soult, Arran, Bingham, Informal, the Monoform —Lira colt, and Prince Menschikoff—and are jumping out of their skins. The latter was put up at auction last Friday. Tho reserve was not realised. Hopfleld has resumed work after a short respite since tho Auckland winter meeting.

6. Henderson, the cross-country rider, had rather a close call through contracting pneumonia after a fall ofi Nita at the Napier Park fixture. Mr J. Cookerton has a good-looking, rising foUr-year-old bv Elysian—Miss Nelson, which he recently indulged in a few jumps on tho course. He flew the little sticks. like a veteran. Harry French, the oldest horsetrainer at Ellerslie. has Lady Glen looking nice and mellow. Ho recently had the Soult—Signet mare Slgno placed in his hands to prepare for next season.

S. Walker, the Te Aroha trainer, is keeping Monodon, Monoform, Seabird. Campaign, Campfire, by Carbine a rising All Black—Bliiey three-year-old in work at Te Aroha. They are pretty forward. Michael O’Leary—one of Moraghan’s horses —is putting on a lot of condition, hut has a very unsightly-looking off hind fetlock joint. Puketua was the name bestowed on Tararu Jack’s full brother—Spalpeen—Soult mare. Tho youngster is rising throe-years-old.

J. Lambess, tho Ellerslie trainer, was formerly quite unknown, but with the past two seasons’ successes patrons arc literally falling over one anot>or to find him horses to prepare. The latestaddition fo his string is Silver Pine, who comes from the country, and is by Marble Arch—Miss Dawson. Lambeso has had other horses offered to him.
