RECIPROCITY WITH RUSSIA SECOND DIVISION BALLOT. The .usual monthly meeting of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce was held in Winder’s Buildings yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr C. M. Luke* x>rcsided. At the last meeting of the council it was stated that Dr Klatchkn, president and representative in Petroerad of the Russian-Australiau Bureau of Commerce and Information, intended to visit New Zealand. The object of his proposed visit was to inaugurate a policy of reciprocity between this country and Russia. Mr A. L. Edwards advocated commercial relationship with Russia- He said that the recent Revolution in that country was a factor calculated to strengthen the nation and thereby be more helxdul to the Allies. He deprecated people placing too much reliance upon small happenings there against judging things on broad lines. He had no doubt about Russia at heart being pro-Ally. He declared Russia to be stronger to-day than ever. Ho was of tho opinion that it was our duty, Jn. view of the sacrifices Russia had made, to do what we could to bring about a reciprocal treaty between the two countries. The object of the visit of Dr Klatchkn was to buy largely from this country and to sell from his own country. The chairman endorsed the remarks of Mr Edwards, and remarked that ho would be pleased to make Dr Klatchkn’s acquaintance upon arrival. He moved that the Chamber accept the invitation to meet Dr Klatchkn. — Carried. SECOND DIVISION. The committee set up to deal with the balloting of the Second Division issued their report as follows;—‘'That the chamber endorse tho opinion of the Second Division League throughout the Dominion that adequate pensions and allowances should be provided for dependents. The chamber is' of the opinion that the Defence Department should arrange with medical practitioners to so arrange their work as to enable men to be examined as early as possible before the ballots are held, and thereby minimise industrial disorganisation.” Accounts to the amount of £3l 4s 3d were passed for payment.
