ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELEBRATIONS
Splendid progress is reported ~by the various sub-committees. The sports section at Newtown Park on Saturday, March 17th, will he an attractive part of the proceedings. A well-diversified programme has been compiled, and entrants will be included from the camps at Trentham and Featherston. The procession will be headed by the New Zealand Natives’ Association Band. Five tableaus will be included, staged on lorries. The school . children of the upper standards will march in the procession, and a prize will he awarded to the best marching class- The tug-of-war contest is exciting considerable interest, and a large number of entrants is expected. The Marist Bros.’ School will give a spectacular display on the ground by 250 pupils, and should ba well worth witnessing. The national concert in the evening will be of exceptional interest to Hibernians and to lovers of national music. The arrangement of the programme and selection of artists occupied considerable thought from the sub-committee. Among the singers are Mr Fred. G. Bourke, of Auckland, and the operatic contralto, Mrs Amers Powers. The local talent includes several well-known artists of undoubted repute. The concert will take place in the Town Hall.
