LABOUR DAY SPORTS

There was a large gathering at the weekly meeting of the Labour Day committee at the Trades Hall. Mr W. Cooper presided, and , the principal business was to discuss the arrangements for the Labour Day demonstration. Mr L. M. A.'ltoarden (secretary) presented reports from the various' sub-committees on the procession, sports, etc. Many entries for the procession events had "* been received, though entries will not close till Monday next, and, the weather being favourable, the committee now feel assured that the turn out will b"e well worthy of the occasion. The Labour Day sports are to bo 'held in. Newtown Park; The sports programme, which comprises some novel iteir.i;y besides the usual athletic contests, the great tug-of-war event, the baby show, Highland dancing, and numerous sido shows, is now complete. Mothers of families will 'be glad to learn that milk and hot water are to .be furnished free, and that toys galore will also bo presented to the little ones. The undertaking deso»ves again this year a special measure of success, as one-Jialf of -the net proceeds of the demonstration are to be donated to the Mayor's war* distress fund.
