POLICE AND CIVIL CASES. Before Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., yesterday, Cooi-jje Pcrrin an<l John Chambers were each fined 10s, and David Gout-Icy McClay £l, with the usual alternatives, for drunkenness. "William Stevens (for whom Mr Nielson appeared) was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond. SubInspector .McKinnou stated that the man had done no work for six months, and had a bad record. Mr Xielson suggested that defendant should be given an opportunity of leaving Wellington, but His Worship said it would be unfair to burden another district with him. CIVIL CASES. The following civil cases were disposed of belorc Mr W. G. Riddoll, S.M.:—F. W. Lewis (Mr Kennedy) claimed from Charles E. Mullis (Mr H. Hill), £7 15s rent m connection with the hire of the Kilbirnie Hall. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £5 10s, with £o 3s costs.

On a judgment summons, Herbert Henry Suton Compton was ordered to pay George England the sum of £ls 17s lOd in instalments of 30s per month. UPPER HUTT COURT. At the Upper Hutt Court on Wednesday, in the case L. W. Hobbs versus J. M. Ferguson, Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., gave judgment for the plaintiff on the claim for wages due and for one mouth's wages in lieu of notice, and for the price of certain goods obtained by plaintiff for use on defendant's poultry farm, the magistrate holding that the relationship of master and servant was establishe'd. ' Of the defendant's counter-claim for £2O 14s 2dj the magistrate allowed £1 lis 2d, the net result being judgment for plaintiff Hobbs for £ls 13s lOd, inclusive of costs. A subsequent claim by. the same plaintiff against the game defendant for the return of certain poultry or their value was settled, defendant (Ferguson) to retain the poultry, but to pay plaintiff (Hobbs) the sum of 17s. Mr R. H. Webb appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Nielson for defendant in each case.
