ALLEGED LIBEL

BIG CLAIM BY BANK OF NEW ZEALAND. Under instructions from the directors of the Bank of New Zealand, Messrs Findlay, Dalziell and Howard have issued a writ against the proprietor of the newspaper “New Zealand Truth,” claiming £IO,OOO damages for alleged libel. There is, it is understood, one action for £SOOO in respect to a criticism of the bank’s balancesheet and report and its administration, appearing in the ‘‘New Zealand Truth,” published on June 19th, and signed “Cambist”; and a second for £SOOO in respect te a contents bill advertising the said issue of tho “New Zealand Truth,” and bearing the words; “Bank of New Zealand—a Position of Extreme Gravity.”
