PARTIALLY-TRAINED NURSES
To tho Editor, "N.Z. Times/ - * Sir, —I wish to express a few words on the necessity for more" nurses for the front. We read of tho long time the wounded are left without their wounds being dressed, and probably die from the want of a little attention. If assistant nurses were accepted for service what a T ot could be done for our brave troops. Of course it is all very wellto want only fully trained nurses, but nurses with some hospital experience, and after a course of lectures and bandaging demonstrations, which could be given on the voyage, would be quite capable of performing the duties required. If the Government do not take the trouble to see that the wounded have proper attention I think it is up to the relatives of the soldiers to do something ’to-
wards assisting willing women to get to the base hospitals. I understand that in England the authorities are taking nurses, some without any experience whatever, and glad to got them. Why doesn’t New Zealand take some partially trained nurses and not deprive the Dominion of so many fully trained r Since the outbreak of war I have written several letters offering my services, having had over twelve months’ general hospital experience, but always get the same reply, “Only fully trained nurses will bo accepted." In my opinion there ore not enough trained nurses in New Zealand to attend to troops who have left, and a certain number of nurses must Remain here- I think the public should take up this matter, anfl send as many assistant nurses as possible.—l am, etc., PARTIALLY TRAINED.
