DELPHIC IN BALLAST TO KKTIR.X TO NEW ZEALAND. Information lias boon received by the Prime .Minister that the British Hoard of Trado lias agreed to -allow, the steamer Delphic to return from Ijondon to New Zealand in ballast fo load frozen meat at various ports. The cost of the trip will he in the, region of £15,000, and this will bo borne by the hoard itself. Referring to the question of space for meat and to the allegations that Canterbury was receiving an unfair . proportion of the space available, Air Massey said that in view of the present drought in Canterbury, arrangements had been made for tho Canterbury ports to bo the first ports of call for loading purposes by a number of meat-carrying ships. He produced figures to show, that the Zealandic, during tho last few days, had loaded no fewer than 13,985 carcases of mutton and 35,605 carcases of lamb at Timaru. Further, he quoted statistics showing that from March 3rd (when the Government took over the business) until May 6th tho total payments to freezing companies and their clients, as tar as Canterbury was concerned, was £557,810 7s . 7d, as against Wellington, £337yt93 10s.
