A PLUCKY WOMAN

LINK WITH BUSH-RANGING DAYS. By Telofirraph—Press Association—-Copyrlcltt SYDNEY, July 10. The death is announced of Mrs Ledwidge, aged seventy-six years. She was a link with the bushrangiag days. The bushranger Power, after escaping from Pentridgo Gaol, stuck up JUedwidge’s Hotel, at Humula. Ledwidgo escaped, mounted Power’s horse, and went in search of the police. Power ransacked the house in search of a bag of gold dust, which, with another bag containing £6OO, Mrs Ledwidgo hid. The bushranger twice severely beat the defenceless woman with his gun barrel for refusing to disclose the place of hiding, and three times set fire to the house, Mrs Ledwidge each time putting out the fire. Eventually Power, securing only £2 in money and a cheque for £2O, fled, leaving his victim bleeding on the floor.
