SHUNTER KILLED
RUN OVER BY TRUCKS AT THORNDON. At about a quarter past 1 o’clock this morning a shunter named John Dugdale, while engaged in shunting some trucks in the Thorndon station yard, was killed. No one saw the accident, so far as can he ascertained, hnt it appears that ho must have been standing on tho track as some trucks were shunted backwards by an engine, and. was knocked down. Hi* chest was crushed in and one arm smashed to pulp, and death must have been instantaneous. Dugdale was a married! man, about fifty-six years of ago, and resided at Northland. He had been in the railway service thirty years, and was regarded as tho “father” of the railway staff at Thorndon. Ho leaves a grown-up family.
