NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETS. CROUCH’S SUSPENSION AGAIN. The council of the New Zealand Football Association met last night, the following members being present : —Messrs C. E. Fordham (in the chair), J. J. Lewis, J. F. Atkins, T. McLaren, B. L. Salmon, A. C. Kerr, H. Salmon, R. Hutcheson, and R. Y. Walls. The Poverty Bay Football Association wrote asking whether “soccer” players should h© allowed to play under the auspices of the Rugby Union without first obtaining the permission of the local association. Seven “soccer” players at Gisborne played in a seven-a-side Rugby match on June 3rd last for trophies.—The action- of the secretary in advising the Poverty Bay Association that the mattcj- was outside the council’s jurisdiction was confirmed. The Hawke’s Bay Association wrote stating that it hoped to get arrangements completed for the Canterbury Brown Shield match at Christchurch on Saturday fortnight. The Canterbury Association inquired whether the council would enforce its 10 per cent, claim on the returns for the Brown Shield match with Westland, which resulted in a deficit. —On the motion of Mr B. L. Salmon it was’ decided to request the Canterbury Association to forward the ha-

lance-sheefc of the match, together with 10 per cent, of the takings, and in future to forward 5 per cent, of the net gate of Brown Shield matches 'in order to establish a reserve fund in compliance with rule 6. A communication from the Wanganui Association stated that the prospects of the game in that district were brilliant; and that the towns along tire Main Trunk line, including Huntcrville, Taihape, and Ohakune, were organising teams. In response to a letter from tho Wellington Association, the case of.T. Crouch, who was disqualified last season, was considered. Mr R. Y. Walls moved that the case’be reopened. Mr T. McLaren moved and Mr B. L. Salmon seconded the following amendment: —“That the council cannot see its way clear to reopen the case, and takes it that the Wellington Football Association desires the removal of the balance of the suspension; on receipt of a letter to that effect the council will give the request its favourable consideration.” ’ ' The amendment was carried by five votes to three. The following suspensions by the Otago Association- were confirmed: W. Liddell (four playing Saturdays), G, Tabernacle (four playing Saturdays), W. Donaldson (to end of 1918 season), and J. Dallas (to end of 1915 season). Intimation was received that owing to the programme for the present season being completed, the question of an inter-Stato team to visit the Dominion could not be entertained by the New South .Wales Association. The Marlborough Association wrote,' stating that it was probable that a match would be played this season against'Nelson. It also advised that it was intended to send a team to play Wellington shortly. Mr T. McLaren resigned his position of trustee to. the N.Z.F.A., and Mr W., J. H. Reynolds was elected in his place. 1 * ' On Tuesday, July 24th, there will be a speoial meeting of the N.Z.F.A. to consider the proposed alterations in the Brown Shield rules. It was decided to write to the Corinthian dub, and invite them to send a team to New Zealand next year. The copies of former-cor-respondence between tho English Association and tho New Zealand governing body are-to bo enclosed in the letter. A suggestion was made that copies of tli© letters be forwarded to the Commonwealth Football Association, with a view to getting the co-operation of that body in tho proposed visit. Matches could be played in tho Australian States, either on their way to or homo from New Zealand, by the Corinthian team. • . '
