SYDNEY, June 3The position at tho Maitland mines is unchanged. A conference of colliery proprietors takes place on Friday to consider the question of the afternoon, shift. The conference . representatives of the coal miners state that to-day they decided to send a deputation to the Minister'for Mines, with a view to the amendment of tho Mining Act. The statement is'.made that the miners are determined to secure __ the abolition of the afternoon shift. "The Victorian Coal Miners’ Association has promised assistance iri this direction.
