Air J. H. N. A. Burnes, Wellington manager of tho New Zealand Shipping Company, passed away at tho Wellington Club on Tuesday evening. Death was not altogether unexpected, the deceased gentleman having suffered for some time from aneurism of the aorta. Tho late Mr Burnes was the son of Air Adam Burnes, who was a- native of Alontrose, Scotland, and who in 1857 opened tho Oriental Banking Corporation in Wellington (tho first bank established in tho colony). Air J. H. N. A. Barnes was born in Alclbourne fifty-three years ago, and was for thirty-six years in tho service of the New Zealand Shipping Company. He married a Aliss McNeill, daughter of one of tho original partners of Briscoe, AlcNeill and Co., Dunedin. His widow, together with a sou and daughter, survive him. Tho funeral will take place this afternoon at tho Taita cemetery.
