LACROSSE
ANNUAL REPORT OF ASSOCIATION.
The annua! report of. the AA’ellington Lacrosse Association, which is to be presented at to-night’s meeting, states that last season’s lacrosse was probably the most successful on record. The Columbia Club won the Proud Cup, after some very interesting contests, the Capitol and Kelburne Clubs being close up. AVellington, the remaining chib, showed marked improvement on tho previous season’s play, and promises to make a strong bid for ihe cup anr vug tho ensuing season. Tho balance-sheet shows the finances of the association to be in a healthy condition. It is stated that during the current season a local team will bo sent to Auckland, and players are urged tp put forward their best endeavours to retain the Proud Shield. The association sustained a severe loss through tho departure of Air A. H. Casey for Canada. Air Casey was one of the pioneers of the game in AVellingtou, and his services will bo much missed. It is satisfactory to record (says the report) that the various young ladies’ colleges which took up the game prior to last season still maintain interest in it. Tho committee urges all members to maintain a spirit of keenness and enthusiasm, which is essential to the furtherance of tho game, both in respect to the standard of play and the increase of membership.
