In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Holman, the Premier, in delivering the Budget, stated that the estimated revenue for the current year w-as £lB,380,000, an increase of £2,120,000, including £643,000 from new taxation already foreshadowed, in addition to higher freights and fares on the railways and tramways. The estimated expenditure tvas £18,342,000 leaving a surplus of -£39,000. This surplus is Obtained by abolishing the sinking funds for the year and nht making any grants to the Public "Works Funds. There is an increase of expenditure of £853,000 compared with the previous year, and, as a result, the deficit of £1,228,000 was not repeated. In submitting the Estimates Mr Hobnan su’d that he hoped to bo able to reintroduce tho sinking fund next year, with a view to wiping off the deficit remaining over from 1912-13. He forecasts that the revenue next year will be £20,039,000.
