DAIRY PRODUCE
BIG MARKET IN CANADA. Press Association. AUCKLAND, March H. Mr William Goodfellow, managing director of the Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company, who has just returned from an extensive tour of the Western American States, says that western Canada offers a tremendous market for New Zealand dairy produce, which is rapidly coming into favour everywhere there. A large number of traders, however, fake the New Zealand butter by adding ton to fifteen per cent, of moisture, and causing a corresponding depreciation in the value. Mr Goodfellow and a number of merchants to whom ho talked in America are emphatically of the opinion that the Now Zealand _ Government should station an official in Western Canada to protect the interests of the Now Zealand dairy farmer and exporters, and stir up the Canadian Government to prosecute those who now so flagrantly transgress the Canadian regulations. While Mr Goodfellow was in Canada, the manager of the Byron Bay Company, the largest dairying enterprise in Now South Wales and in the Southern Hemisphere, was engaged in a similar tour, and ho publicly declared that next season an attempt will be made to establish Australasian butter in the Canadian market. Very little dairy produco from the Commonwealth has yet been shipped to Canada, but efforts are being made to secure a reciprocal tariff so that Australia will ho able to trade with Canada on terms as favourable as those enjoyed by Now Zealahd.
