ELECTION"OF" 'QUEEN." Press Association. WANGANUI, March 11. _ Intense interest is, being taken _in the queen of the carnival competition in connection with the Beautifying Society’s carnival. _ There are twelve candidates for queen. Bast night a crowd estimated at . 7000 _ attended a performance by Maoris at Virginia Lake. A large number of natives on their way to the Pjirihaka meeting were present and gave dances. It is expected the carnival profits will rqn into four figures. The election of queen of the carnival was decided tonight in the presence of five thousand people. Miss Ina McDonald was elected queen with 38,360 votes, Mrs Gregor McGregor being next with about 33,032 votes, and Mrs Hammond third with 30,017. The election created great interest during the past throe weeks.
