The other Cabinet Ministers - are in Wellington. * Mr David Anderson, for many years general manager in Australia of the Orient Steam Navigation Company, died in London last Tuesday week. Mr Anderson, who# was one of the most prominent men in Australian shipping circles, had Tbeen m ill-health for some considerable time, and' when ho left Sydney last year it was thought that the change would improve him, but He gradually grew worse, and passed away on Tuesday. The late Mr Anderson joined: the office of Messrs Anderson, Anderson and Co. forty-three years ago, one of the two firms which act as managers or directors of the Orient line, the other firm being Messrs Green and Co; He first came to Australia early in 1890, when he took the position of branch manager for the company in Adelaide. He removed to a similar position in Melbourne - in 1892, and wont to Sydney on March Ist, 1893, to take np the appointment of general manager in Australia for the company. From this time he retained control of the company’s affairs in Australia until last year, when his health failed him. The late Mr Anderson was very prominent in 1907, when he brought to a successful issue the present mail contract held by the Orient Company with the-Commonwealth Government.
