They were Dr and Mns Maurice, Dr and Mrs Dawson, Dr and Mrs Young, Dr and Mrs Holmes, Dr. Marchant, Dr Aland, and Dr Hosting. A striker who conducted his own defence in the Supremo Court last week, asked if he might challenge the calling of a certain juror, apart from the right to challenge six names, if ho showed cause for doing so. The Chief Justice replied that ho had that right. The accused then gave his reason that the juror in question was a free labourer during the strike. “That is not a cause for challenge,” responded His Honour. A little later the accused asked how many names the Crown could challenge. His Honour: “As many as they like.” It was explained from the bench that the Crown did not really challenge the jurors, hut ordered them to “stand aside,” -and if necessary they could be called again.
