ASSAULT BY PRISONERS

A WARDER SERIOUSLY INJURED. Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 23. Warder Anderson, who acted in the oajpacity of storekeeper at the Mount Eden Gaol, was assaulted by two, prisoners this morning and seriously wounded in several places on the head by blows from an iron bar. Particulars of the assault are not yet available. It is understood, however, that one of the prisoners concerned is a man who was recently transferred to Mount Eden Gaol from the Invercargill Reformatory Prison under sentence for assaulting a warder at the southern prison. The motive is believed to have been a desire to obtain some keys which the warder carried, and which the prisoners thought would open the way to escape. The two prisoners will probably ocme before the Police Court to-morrow.
