At the Harbour Board meeting last evening. Captain Watson moved; ‘•That a deputy harbourmaster be appointed, and that the senior pilot in the service of the board be appointed to that position.” The mover stated that the harbourmaster was frequently away from his office owing to the nature of bis duties, which took him to the heads and other places. The chairman seconded the motion, and said ho thought this step was necessary for the port. Pilot Shilling had been in the service of the board for about thirty-six years, and he thought it would be a very high honour to confer upon him the position of deputyharbourmaster. At present the senior pilot carried out the duties devolving on a deputy-harbourmaster, and although the new appointment did not carry with it any increment in salary, it was proper that Captain Shilling should have this designation. The motion was carried unanimously. Henry Hughes, Limited, patent agents, 157, Feathers ton street, report the recent filing of the following applications for patents:—Mason.
