CONSPIRING TO DEFRAUD

TRIAL OP SHACKLETON AND GARLIOK. By Telegraph—Proas Association—Copyright LONDON, October 20. At tho trial of Francis Shackleton, formerly of tho Dublin Castle staff, and Thomas Garlick, an accountant, on a charge of conspiring to defraud Miss Josephine Browne or the sum of £12,000, Shackleton denied converting Miss Browne’s money to his own use. The Celtic Trust (in which Miss Browne was supposed to have 6000 shares) was interested in the exploitation of land and timber in North Mexico worth £6,800,000. Had the scheme succeeded, the Celtic Trust’s profit would have been £50,000, and he would have realised £75,000 besides the return of the capital. Further hearing of the case was adjourned.
