MR SULZER

“RESISTED ALL ATTEMPTS AT BRIBERY. ” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, October 21. Mr John Hennessy, cx-Governor Sulzer’s friend, explained to a crowded meeting that Mr Sulzer, while Governor, resisted every attempt at bribery. This proved distasteful to Tammany, which thereby lost some power. Mr Hennessy said he did not believe that Mr Glynn, who has been appointed Governor, would be more pliant. He had no doubt Tammany would also find some reason for his (Mr Glynn’s) removal. Mr Sulzer had never been Governor of New York State except nominally. Sulzer took the orders given him until he was unable to stand “Boss” Murphy’s exactions any longer; then he rebelled, because his conscience reasserted itself.
