PREFERENCE TO DOMINIONS
SIR. STARR JAMESON ON SOUTH AFRICA’S POSITION.
(Received February 28, 9.55 pmu) LONDON, February 38. Sir Starr Leander Jameson, at a meeting of the British South Africa Company, said that South Africa did not wish to put an extra burden on the British people, but to say that the Dominions were unwilling to receive preference was arrant humbug. He did not think that the preference which South Africa now granted to Great Britain would be continued unless South Africa obtained bettee treatment.
Ho added that tho time was not ripe for Rhodesia to enter the Union. The people would not welcome tho absorption by the Union of a sphere which was not as essentially British as they could desire.
