THE REGULUS SOLD

TO RESUME BUNitJING AGAIN.

The Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, of Nelson, yesterday purchased the Westport 'Coal Company’s collier Regulus, which has been laid up at Wellington durinjc the past seven weeks owing to a difficu Ity in procuring firemen in consequence of the owners •ofusal to add two more, men to the stokehold crew. Represent stives of the Anchor Company will arrive in Wellington to-day to take over the vessel, Arrangements ha- re been made iy the new owners for on agreement with the firemen on the subject of the number of men to man tho stokehold. A few days before Christmas the Regains laid up at Wellington for overhaul. She was to have g one into commission again on January Uth, but the firemen declined to accept engagement unless the vessel carried tv.ro trimmers. The Regains had, however, carried three firemen and a donlteyman—-one more than required by the Act. The Westport Coal Company decided that rather than accede to the men's demands they would lay the vessel up. This was done, and the Elegulus has been laid up in the stream ever since. The company’s representative stated that the Regulus was not paying, and therefore it was futile for tho men to expect the owners to lose more money on the running of the vessel. Tho Regulus is a twin-screw steel cargo vessel with a deadweight capacity of 500 tons. She is able to work Wanganui at spring tides on a full load, and can also negotiate that port at neap tides with a reduced cargo. The Regulus was built in 1907 by , Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, Ltd., Newcastle. Her engines are by A. G. Momford, Ltd., Colchester. Tho Regains is a vessel of 584 tons gross and 227 tons net, of tho following dimensions: Length I7oft, beam 29ft 9in, depth 9ft via. Electric light is installed.
