The Education Department has announced that while free and compulsory education is impracticable, it hopee shortly to provide schools for double the present number of primary scholars, while free education will hie given tb those who are unable to afford to pay fees. A great effort is to be made with regard to girls’ education, especially in the direction of hygiene. It is proposed to have an affiliated University in each of the leading provinces. * An appeal is being made to wealthy Indians to _ support the Government’s scheme.
