Mr Alfred Williams, Director of KJucation for Australia, died at Adelaide last week. He had been m ill-health almost since he was ap : pointed to the position in January, 1906 His appointment marked an epoch in the 'history of the South Australian Education Department, for it was concurrent with the establishment of an entirely new system of management. Mr Williams was bom in 1863, poar Kanlmantoo (South Australia), and has a distinguished career in the Education Department from the time he became a pupil teacher at the age of thirteen.
