STRANGE ACCIDENT

AT CYCLE RACE OFFICIAL STRUCK DOWN BY. FLYING COMPETITOR. Press Association. TIMARU, December S. A remarkable and serious accident marred the local road race of the Temuka Caledonian Society this afternoon. An eager crowd near the winning point formed a narrow lane for the ndera. Mr George Ward, president or the society, who was in the front line, dropped a pencil, and stooped to pick it up. Before he recovered himself a rider came along, probably at a speed of twenty-five miles an hour, and the pedal of his machine struck Air Ward on the side of the head, and he fell unconscious, bleeding from month, nose, and ears. Ho was conveyed to the hospital, and is in a critical condition. The cyclist was thrown, but he was unhurt.
