FROZEN MEAT TRADE

GOVERNMENT ASKED TO , LATELONDON, December 3. In the House of Commons, Mr E. R. B. Denniss (Unionist member for Oldham) asked Mr Sydney Buxton (President of the Board of Trade) whether his attention had been called to the method of distribution of frozen meat. The carcases, he said, were covered with very thin canvas and sacking, and were put on the filthy floors of the wagons, and lay for hours on platforms of railway stations where dogs roamed. He asked whether the Government would legislate requiring frozen meat to be only carried in special vans and suspended by hooks, so that it would not be allowed to touch the ground. Mr Buxton said the Board of Trade had not heard of the condition of affairs. He promised that inquiries would be made.
