LLOYD GEORGE ON THE UNEMPLOYED PROBLEM.

The solution, of tho problem of unemployment was 1 to be found in a complete overhauling of our land system (said Mr Lloyd George in the Queen's Hall, London, a few weeks ago). Our idea as to the land system was fundamentally wrong. Land was given not for the benefit, enjoyment, and amusement of a few rich, but for the raising of a healthy and happy nation. Game preservation did not conduce to the <-o----vclopmemt of small-holdings, and the time had come to show that the land of England was not meant merely for partridges and pheasants. If they had . a rational land system, the people would flock to the land, exactly as they had been flocking to seek jobs in the large industrial centres. He wanted the working men of the country to build their hopes, not on the myths of protection, but on the solid foundation of "the land for the people." (Loud cheers.) Let them got for the population free, unfettered, unshackled cultivation of the land of England. The laud made no promises to the tiller that it did not .fulfil; it betided no hope in tho springtime that it did not realise in the summer. The land was a bountiful mother, giving to the children of men, comfort,, security, and rest. (Loud cheers.)
