AMATEUR ATHLETICS

NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION’S COUNCIL. The council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last evening, Mr A. A. Marryatt presiding. There wero also present Messrs M. H. Oram, J. C. Cusack, T. Crouch, A. Davies, E. L. Chaffey, W. F. Larkin and J. I. Thompson. 1 ■ In regard to the alleged weakness of the Otago centre’s officials at Outram, a letter was received- stating that the Otago Association was thoroughly satisfied with the officials’ action. The Palmerston North Harriers were granted affiliation to the New Zealand Association. It was decided to write to the president of the Auckland Association pointing out that no replies had L»een received to certain correspondence, and as grave •issues to the sport were at stake, tho necessary action bo taken. It was resolved that the formation of a club at Blenheim be taken in hand, and that the Canterbury Association be written to on tho matter. WELLINGTON CENTRE. A meeting of the Wellington centre N.Z.A.A.A. was held in the Y.M.y.A. rooms last evening. Mr E. W. MoVilly occupied the chair. . The Palmerston North Hamer Club wrote ajiplying for affiliation to the N.Z.A.A.A. The action of the secretary in forwarding tho application to the council was endorsed. Tho subcommittee set up to make arrangements for tho New Zealand five miles cross-country championship, to be held at Miramar next Saturday, reported having received entries from Otago, Auckland and Wellington - (two teams;. The course decided upon was from the old golf house across the flat to the gasometer, a line being then taken towards the Lyall Bay beach, and back to the golf house by way of Seatoun Heights. This course is a little over two_ miles, and will be traversed twice, with the finishing post at the gasometer (some 300 yards from ths golf house). The subcom. mi’t.ek repori was approved. A subcommittee consisting of Messrs A C. Kitto. ’W. L. Dunn, and H. W. Thompson was set up to make arrangements lor entertaining the visitors. The trophies will be presented at a dinner to be held on Saturday evening at 6.30. The report submitted by the delegates to the country clubs' conference held at Palmerston on July 24th was discussed.^ The shield donated by Mr MoVilly will be competed for in track championship events by country clubs, the first sports meeting to bs held at Feilding.
