THE WEATHER
WET SATURDAY-FINE SUNDAY. Rain fell practically all day on Saturday, and the temperature was very low. After midnight there was a change, and Sunday morning broke fine and clear. A glance across the harbour showed a coating of snow on the high hills from near the heads northward.
SNOW AT DANNEVIRKE. Dannevirke experienced another heavy snowfall on Saturday nfght, making the fourth this winter (says a Press Association telegram). IN THE SOUTH. PRESS ASSOCIATION. - CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. After a couple of days of bright sunny weather the conditions changed back to real winter on Saturday morning. A sharp fall in the barometer indicated the approach of westerly weather, and before daybreak there was just a hint of a ■nor'wester, but the wind blew up from the south-west and the temperature fell rapidly. There were heavy showers of rain and sleet during the morsing, and just at noon came a light fall of snow—too light to lie. Tho modest snowstorm lasted about twenty minutes, and ■ gave place to rain, but at intervals more snow fell, and shortly after 1 o'clock flakes came big and thick and fast. However, this storm also soon ceased. The weather remained cold throughout the afternoon, with frequent light falls of snow. Later
