FRIDAY. JULY 26. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell. S.M.) ALLEGED THEFT. Thomas Jones pleaded not guilty to stealing a pair of boots, valued at 20s, tho properly of Daniel Coronno. His Worship, after hearing evidence, ordered defendant to come up for sentence when called on.

John William Rippon was charged with the theft of a suit of clothes belonging to James Evans, and elected to be tried by jury. Ho was remanded until Wednesday. Constance McCracken was remanded to appear at Christchurch to-day on a charge of stealing £2O belonging to Joseph Longrabre. Bail was allowed in the sum of £4O. BAD LANGUAGE. A youth named Ernest Johnson was lined 40s, with costs 11s, for using indecent language. HURTS HIS CONSCIENCE. Michael Joseph Dee, a “ conscientious objector,” pleaded guilty to failing to attend parades of his military company, and was fined 40s, with costs 11s, in ’default seven days’ imprisonment. DRUNKENNESS. For insobriety, Norah Nugent was convicted and discharged, and for a breach of a prohibition order she was fined 40s, in default seven days. Two first offenders were leniently punished for drunkenness. UNLIGHTED VEHICLE.

George Haslam - was fined ss, with costs 7s, for driving a vehicle without a light on the Hutt road.

PARENTS .AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. Fines and costs ranging from 2s to 17s were inflicted on the following persons for failing to send their children to school:—Daisy Anderson, William Belsham, Joseph Brough, John. Callister, Joshua Clapham, Catherine Clements, Arthur Cudby, C. D. Graham, Arthur Lawton, James Looner, Charles Maddock, George McGhee, William MeGlinchey, John Ryan, and Frederick Sage. WANDERING ANIMALS. William Hamlin, a pig farmer, was ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £2 17s, for allowing pigs to wander on the main Porirua road. For permitting stock to be at large, William Mosham was fined ss, with costs 7s. James Hocking, for a similar offence, was ordered to pay costs £2 11s 6d, Cyril McFarlane costs 19s 6d, and Frank Eugene McFarland costs 19s 6d.
