PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, July 21. Tho first representative match of tho season was played hero yesterday between Auckland and tho South Island country team. The match was devoid of brilliancy, and Auckland outclassed the visitors and won by 21) points to 3. The teams wore: ~ , , , , . South Island: Full-back, Atchison; three-quarters, Haase, Irving, and Hale; five-eighths. Nelson and McEvoy; halfback, Church; wing- forward, J. Nolan (captain); forwards, Mclntosh. Richards, Southgate, Forbes, French, Best, and Sheridan. • t _ . Auckland: Full-back, J. OBnen; three-quarters, A. McGregor, J. D. Stewart, and V’. Mackay; five-eighths, T. Walshe (captain) and Ifwerson; halfback, C. Webb: wing-forward, J. Hall; forwards, Forsyth, Barrett, Carroll, Wilson, Collett, Sellars, and Tresize. Tho visitors started off well and gave a good display in tho first spell, but the pace set by the local fifteen carried them off their legs in the second half, and ran all over them, putting on 24 points while the southerners were unable to add to their total. 'The team includes several players of prromise. and with it little- more playing together they may prove useful to their side. ■ Auckland's score was made up by tries by Mackay (2), McGregor (2), Tresize, Sellars, and Carroll, while Ifwerson converted three and Walshe one. The visitors' score came from a penalty kick by Church. Tho game against Auckland was the South Island team s first match in its tour of the North Island. The southerners will leave for Now Plymouth to-morrow, and play Taranaki at Stratford on Thursday. OTAGO v. NORTH ISLAND COUNTRY TEAM. DUNEDIN. July 20. Tho Wairarapa Rugby Union on Saturday night decided < to play the senior match between Wairarapa and Nelson at Carterton on August 15th. It was decided to play the North versus South Wairarapa senior match at Carterton on August 3rd. the north team to be selected from Red Star. Masterton, and Gladstone, and-tho south team from Carterton, Grevtown, and Liberals. The union has a credit balance of nearly J 3150.
