TEA AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Yesterdav afternoon Lady Islington entertained about fifty ladies to after-, noon tea at Government House. Ino guests were received by her Excellency ill the drawingroom, which was decorated with pots of large poinsettiae and palms; tea was laid in .the ballroom, a long buffet at one end and small tables where the guests sat were arranged at one side. Hero also were 'to be seen some magnificent pot plants. After tea the guests were entertained with songs by Miss Muriel Bennett, a pianoforte selection bv Mr Baxter Buckley, and whistling solos by Mr Borneo Gardiner. Lady Islington wore maize coloured crepe de cheue inlet with ecru lace, and a broad fur stole on her shoulders; Hiss Stapleton-Cotton was in

blue charm euse, Mrs Vavasour wore a heavy white lace overdress mounted on blue satin. Miss Vavasour was hi pale blue ninon and lace. Mrs Dalgety cream ninon inlet with lace and caught with wide satin ribbo-, Mrs Guise wore grey, with a small grey hat with pink roses; Lady Ward blue ninon over cense and a black hat- Mrs T. Mackenzie black velvet, Mr-s Wilford black and green, with green plumed hat; Mrs Herdman black costume and .straw bat with green feathers. Among the guests were also Lady Guinness, Mrs Brandon, Mrs Lcckie," Mrs Godlcy, Mrs T. G. Maoartby, Mrs Kane, Mrs Tweed, Mrs Biss. Mrs and Miss Collins, Mrs Didsbury, Mrs L. 11. B. Wilson. Mrs Chatfield, Miss Hafcourt Miss Eileen Ward, Miss Mackenzie, Mrs A. M. Johnson, Mrs G. Trine, Mrs W. Turnbull, Mrs Brandon, Mrs Dalziell Mrs Hughes, Mrs A. Duncan, Mrs Fitcbett, and Mrs Elgar.
