GARRLSOiN OFFICERS The report of the Garrison Officers’ Club to be presented at the annual meeting on Wednesday next states that tho attendance at lectures, etc., during the year was exceptionally good, the average being over 60 .per lecture. Tho increase in membership for the year was 24, the number on the members’ roll now being 148; and in addition twelve now' members have been elected for the coming year. The club was fortunate in obtaining the services and assistance of members of the general stiff for lectures on various military matters and the efforts of these officers were much appreciated by members.
A systematic study of the main battles of the Russo-Japanese war was also entered into, various officers taking up a set portion each. These lectures were illustrated by means of coloured maps, in the preparation of which a good deal of time and care had been spent. The • maps were also the work of officers of the garrison. From October 21st to 23rd inclusive some twenty-five members proceeded to Porirua, where a short instructional course was carried out under the direction of Colonel Heard, D.M.T. Colonel Heard afterwards criticised the work done. 'Regret is expressed that a larger number of members did not avail themselves of the opportunity to attend this short course; also that the social evenings arranged did not meet with the support they deserved, the attendances being very poor. The balance-sheet shows that the funds are in a satisfactory position. Colonel Campbell, V.D., _is thanked for presenting the club with a framed engraving of Field Marshal the Duke of Wellington, which now hangs in the club room.
