DR NEWMAN AT COURTENAY PLACE.
A very brief meeting was held hy Dr. Newman in tho open air at Courtenay place on Saturday night. Ho advertised his intention of speaking at 8 o’clock, and at that time several hundreds were in attendance, tho situation being an excellent one to catch the popular attention. The Opposition candidate spoke of large numbers who were rallying to his aid in the second ballot, and declared that the country wanted a change of Government for the reason that it was not good for any community to have its affairs administered by one party for over twenty years. His remarks were greeted with applause from a group of ■very exuberant supporters. Dr. Newman closed tlio meeting without waiting for questions or any vote of thanks or confidence. ' Most of his hearers moved off to hear Mr McLaren, who held the attention of several hundred people tor over an hour in the same locality.
