MAN HANGS HIMSELF
/ • STRANGULATION DOES NOT CAUSE DEATH. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Alfred George Haines, who was found hanging in a shed at his residence in Khandallah on 'Friday morning, was conducted by Dr A. McArthur, coroner, on Saturday afternoon. It appeared that deceased, who was a butcher and in business in Are street, had for the last two years suffered from fits of giddiness. On Thursday night ho was somewhat restless, hut not unusually so. At 4.45 a.m. ou Friday he got up and lit the fire. Not seeing him; about for ©omo time, Mr© Haines went into the shed and there saw deceased hanging. He was taken down and Dr Robertson was qdlled iu. Haines had no monetary troubles and no reason! could be assigned for any attempt at taking his Hie. Dr J. H. G. Robertson said that when ho arrived he was not perfectly satisfied that the man was dead. However, means taken to restore life failed. In tho doctor’s opinion the cause of death was heart failure—not strangulation. Of this he was quite satisfied, as there was no evidence of strangulation. A verdict was returned in, accordance with medical testimony.
