SCOTLAND'S BEST FOR OTAGO AND HAWKE'S BAY. The Glasgow correspondent of tho "Otago Witness"' sends tho following advice and description of some fashionably bred Clydesdales that are on their way to the Dominion. He writes: — New Zealand buyers are following the right lines in insisting upon • the breeding of animals with weight and substanceI—good 1 —good low-set horses and mares which move upon legs with plenty- of flat flinty bone, with sloping pasterns, nice feather,'and good wide wearing feet —blue for preference. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Dunedin, had shipped to their order on October 16th one of the best lots ‘of Clydesdales Which have yet gone to the .New World.’ In Dunure Thomas they 1 took awfiy about the biggest two-year-old which the Old Country could’ produce.- His sir© is the good-looking horse ; Montrose Prince (11834), .and . he is out of adam by the renowned Hiawatha (1C067), which oh four different occasions carried off tho blue ribbon of the Clydesdale world—the Cawdor Cup. ' Dunure Thomas has size and substance which can be equalled by very few ; Shires, ’and hie quality _ of bone, movement, aha stylo leave-nothing to be desired. He is just the sort of horse which will be a credit to the breed at the outset of the New Zealand dale • Horse' Society of ‘ New 1 '■ Zealand. Half a dozen of mares and fillies are included in tho shipment. " On© of them is the seven-year-old Etta, known all over the world as the' dam' of Koyal Marcellus, which made‘the record price for his age'm ’ New Zealand,-and before his exportation • left a number'of grand foals ih the -Kircudbright district which will yet be heard of.'A 'second mare is' a, daughter of tho great bleeding horse liaroii Mitchell (10688);' and ' goihg back on the female 3 side to the great Merryton Prince-'of Wales (673). Then comes Peerless; a three-year-old daughter of Mr James Kilpatrick's Craigio Maixis prize-winning horso Perfect , Motion' (131*23). This mare has been-most successful in gaining distinction in several important shows In Scotland. There is a two-yeariold filly by Barones Pride (3122), the greatest' 1 breeding horse of tho age, and out of the grand old mate Kosie of Bomble. A yearling filly is by Baron's Pride, and 'another ’ by Dunure' James '(13452). Both "are of superb quality, and they are up to big sizes for their age. AU these animals are intended for tho stud of Mr -Mackenzie. Mr J; W. Blair gets a very fine two-year-old, ; which has been-named High Hark.'
